Salesforce Spiff vs Visdum

Spiff now runs on Salesforce's terms. Visdum runs on yours.

Same job: automated, audit-ready commissions. The difference is who your comp engine answers to, whether an admin can change a plan without filing a ticket, and whether support picks up. Here's the head-to-head, including what Spiff's own users have written since the acquisition.

Bring one comp plan and a recent pay period. We'll run it live.

The fair version

Sometimes Spiff is the right call. Often it isn't.

We're not going to pretend Spiff is a bad product. Its reviewers consistently praise the rep-facing experience, and they're right to. The clearest summary we've heard came from someone who ran comp on it and then left.

I've also tried Spiff, which is now owned by Salesforce, and that was very pleasant for the user, but very difficult for the admin team — and so we decided to leave them and move to Visdum this year.

Stay on Spiff if

Salesforce is your whole world.

  • You're committed to Salesforce and expect to stay for the long term
  • Your CRM data is clean and your comp plans are relatively standard
  • Your reps like the earnings view, which is genuinely good, and reviewers say so
  • You have admin capacity, or budget for a consultant when plans change
Choose Visdum if

The work happens behind the curtain.

  • Your stack isn't only Salesforce, or might not be in three years
  • Your admin needs to change a plan mid-quarter without filing a ticket
  • Your plans have splits, accelerators, clawbacks, multi-currency, ASC 606
  • You want a named person on your account, not a support queue
And where Spiff genuinely leads

Spiff carries far more reviews than we do, 3,068 against our 674, and it's rated in G2's Sales Performance Management category where Visdum isn't listed, and it offers territory management, which Visdum currently does not. If territory assignment is a hard requirement, say so on the call and we'll tell you straight whether we're a fit.

In their own words

What Spiff's own users have written since the acquisition.

Spiff holds a strong overall rating on G2, 4.6 out of 5 across more than 3,000 reviews, and we won't pretend otherwise. But the same themes recur among its detractors, and they sharpened after Salesforce took over. Verbatim excerpts from public reviews, each paired with how Visdum answers it.

Support, after the acquisition
"Unfortunately our Support team is unavailable for calls and has transitioned to a diagnostic role rather than that of a building role. This ultimately means we direct you towards trainings and resources that will enable you to self-manage Spiff."
Quoted by AJ P., VP of Sales, Small-Business · G2 · 10 Dec 2024, reproducing a reply he received from Spiff's support team
Visdum: a named success contact who knows your configuration, not a queue, and not a link to a training portal.
Responsiveness
"Spiff was wonderful UNTIL they were purchased by Salesforce. Since then their customer service has become non-existent! It takes three days to get an email reply to a submitted support ticket. AND there is NO way to TALK to a human."
Verified user in Consulting, Small-Business · G2 · 13 Dec 2024
Visdum: a comp question answered the same day, by someone who can actually change something, because they're the person who configured you.
Admin burden
"As an admin, it is not user-friendly or intuitive to create formulas/filters/create new logic in the back end. We're at the mercy of the Implementor."
Verified administrator · TrustRadius
Visdum: admins edit plan logic themselves, 9.5 on G2 against Spiff's 8.5.
Plan changes
"If there's an ICR change, then I have to manually recalculate the difference throughout the entire period."
Verified reviewer · TrustRadius
Visdum: change a rate and the period recalculates itself, across every affected payee, trail intact.
Data outside Salesforce
"Implementation with NetSuite data was a little tricky but Salesforce data was natively pulled in and easy to work with."
Verified reviewer · G2
Visdum: no home-field advantage. NetSuite and QuickBooks are first-class connections.
Implementation
"Needed a 3rd party vendor to install. The vendor was great, but this is not something we could have done on our own."
Jon B. · SoftwareReviews · Feb 2025
Visdum: our own team implements you, no integrator in the middle.

Coming from Spiff

Switching is easier than staying stuck.

Bring your existing plans, quotas and history. We rebuild your comp logic, reconcile it against your last periods, and run both systems in parallel until the numbers match to the cent. You sign off before you switch.

01

Map your plans

We translate your Spiff logic into Visdum: tiers, accelerators, SPIFs, splits, clawbacks. Our team does this, not a third-party integrator.

02

Reconcile the history

We replay your recent pay periods and match them line by line against what Spiff paid, before anything changes.

03

Run in parallel

One period side by side, so Finance signs off on the numbers with zero surprises and no leap of faith.

04

Go live

Reps get their portal, admins get self-serve plan changes, and you close the next period on Visdum.

The switch, first-hand

How ToolsGroup left Spiff, and closed the very next quarter on Visdum.

Lynn had a narrow window: a quarterly payout cycle that started in January and had to pay in April. Ten plans, multiple roles, twelve people who had never been in sales before, and a NetSuite integration she expected to be impossible. They made the April payroll run.

Her reps got access two weeks before payday, with no time for training. "They approved their statements. They understood their statements without any training… Nothing was a shock. No one was having heart attacks."

Salesforce-native, not Salesforce-owned

Leaving Spiff doesn't mean losing CRM-native depth.

Visdum runs natively inside Salesforce. It pulls closed-won deals, owners, splits and custom fields the moment they change, keeps Salesforce as your system of record, and calculates commissions right where your team already works. Most teams go live in under an hour, with no developer or Salesforce admin. The difference from Spiff is who owns the roadmap, not how well it connects to your CRM.
